- Stair (Staircase , Stairway deprecated )
- Construction, compromising a succession of horizontal stages, (treads or landings) that make it possible
to pass on foot to other levels
- Circulation Element
- Construction for the movement of people or goods

- Space for the movement of people, goods or vehicles
Types of Stairs
- Simply Supported Stair
- Stair in which both ends of each step are supported
- Cantilevered Stair
- Stair in which one end only of each step is supported
- Double Cantilevered Stair
- Stair in which the steps are supported only on a carriage, usually
centrally positioned
- Straight Stair
- Stair in which the direction is the same throughout
- Turning Stair
- Stair in which the direction is changed
- Double Return Stair
- Turning stair with one flight to a landing and two flights from
that landing
- Dog-Leg Stair
- Turning stair of two flights with a half landing and without a stairwell
- Open Well Stair
- Turning stair with a stairwell
- Geometrical Stair
- Turning stair in which the outside string and handrail continue
in an unbroken line with curved ends
- Winding Stair
- Turning stair that includes winders
- Spiral Stair
- Turning stair that describes a helix around a central column
- Helical Stair
- Turning Stair that describes a helix around stairwell
- Circular Stair
- Turning Stair shaped as a circle on plan
- Elliptical Stair
- Turning stair shaped as an ellipse on plan
- Open Riser Stair
- Stair in which the vertical spaces between successive treads are
not fully filled by risers
